Staying Centered

It is so easy to get sidetracked and forget what really matters in life. Our time and lives are full of activities, responsibilities, schedules, and the plethora of endless information that can distract and overwhelm us from staying centered on what keeps us centered.

The gospel of Jesus Christ keeps us centered. It is the good news about the Person and work of Jesus Christ on our behalf and how it transforms every aspect of our life.

I like how Pastor Matt Smethurst communicated the importance of keeping the gospel story in front of us in an article he wrote “The Gospel Explained.” It is a fresh reminder of what centers our lives. I highly recommend you read about the four movements of the gospel message:

  1. The Ruler is the King of glory and Lord of love who designed us to find satisfaction in Him, but what happened?

  2. The Revolt began with Adam and Eve in the garden and plunged our lives into an ocean of rebellion which deformed our hearts and disordered our loves. Is there any hope?

  3. The Rescue came from God’s Son Jesus Christ. We couldn’t get to God, so God came to us, absorbed our losses on the cross, and gave us His victory through His resurrection. How can we experience this rescue?

  4. The Response is that we must turn from sin (an about-face), trust Jesus Christ as our King and Savior, and as a result, treasure Him as our greatest hope and eternal satisfaction.

I love Pastor Matt’s last sentence: “This is the greatest story ever told—and anybody can get in on it.” Amen and Amen.

As a follow-up, pray for the salvation of all the children who heard the gospel last week at Kids Town Camp and pray for our upcoming Fusion Federal Way Sports Camp that middle schoolers and their parents would be centered by the message of the good news.
